A modern contemporary interpretation of a farm-style residence with an almost industrial barn-like aesthetic set in an open landscape of lush bushveld on the far northern outskirts of this african city seemingly isolated.
Rustic brickwork, raw concrete techtonics, natural packed stone walls, steel framing roof structures, metal cladding and natural aluminium window framing systems predominate the exterior facades of this family home which significantly reduces long-term building maintenance in the harsh climate where it finds itself.
The rectalinear building forms running parallel to one another consisting of two seperated main building footprints one houses the open plan living and entertainment spaces including a kitchen and scullery all spaces leading out onto a large patio adjacent to a pool deck with connected open air boma and garden courtyard. The two main structures are inter-connected by an entrance / dining lobby also leading you to the other segregated spaces where the private three bedrooms all en-suite and a guest suite / study are found with all rooms leading out onto verandah's running the entire length of the northern exposure providing ample shading of the glazing frontage so as to eliminate solar heat gain in the harsh summer months in this climate.
The large exspanses pitched roofed sections all with northern orientation allow ample and numerous solar panels to be utilized to provide off-grid electrical energy, large rainwater collection tanks are found to the rear of the large three vehicle garage / storage module tandem to a walk-in coldroom tucked behind the wash-up scullery area. The use of a fully integrated grey-water filtration system is utilized to maximize self sustainability in a remote semi-rural landscape.
